Ohanashi will be holding a poster contest for K-12 students to promote learning about Japanese culture. Once posters are judged, they will be put on display at the festival. All participants will receive a certificate, and ribbons and prizes will be awarded for outstanding posters in each specified category.

Theme:
The poster can be about any aspect of Japanese culture.  (Example topics include, but are not limited to, the following: sumo, sushi, famous Japanese people, Japanese houses, tea ceremony, animals of Japan, transportation in Japan, etc.)

Guidelines:
Size: Standard posterboard (22" x 28"), plus or minus 5 inches on either side.
Materials: May be handmade using any media (paper, glue, markers, crayon, paints, etc.) or done on a computer and printed. May be 2-D or 3-D, but must be able to hang from a wall.
Identification: The following information must be clearly printed on the back of each poster:

  • Name
  • Age
  • School
  • Poster Title

Enter the Contest:
Bring in your poster to Ohanashi between 11 and 11:30 am (Saturday November 18). You can check-in your poster at the lobby of the library.  Posters must be received by 11:30 to be considered.

Awards and prizes will be given to the best poster in these categories:

  • Best individual poster, age 10 and under
  • Best individual poster, age 11-14
  • Best group poster, grades K-2
  • Best group poster, grades 3-6
  • Most creative poster
  • Most informative poster

Awards will be announced at 12:30 on the day of the event, in the auditorium.  Posters will then be displayed at their corresponding cultural learning stations.

Judging Criteria:
Posters will be judged by the following criteria:

  • Is the poster about an aspect of Japanese culture?
  • Does the poster contain accurate information?
  • Does the poster show artistic merit and creativity in design?
  • Is the poster neat and organized?
