Guide to Miami University Libraries
If Miami does not own a particular item required by your research, we can request
to borrow it from any library in the world (but mainly in the United States). Items
include microfilmed newspapers, journal articles, books, microfilmed or PUBLISHED
papers and correspondence (please understand that we cannot request original manuscript
materials, but can sometimes request photocopies of a specific item). Books and microforms
are loaned to the library as if you had gone to that library to check them out. Journal
articles are copied. Because of copyright law and the value of journals, entire issues
cannot be copied or borrowed. Request forms available on MiamiLINK.
Although this service can be very useful, and is offered to all students and faculty
free of charge, it is not always immediate. Usually transfer of requests is done
on-line and through the mail. Please allow at least TWO WEEKS to receive your item.
You are generally loaned the item for 3 weeks (no renewals). However, there are exceptions.
Request forms are available at the reference desk. You are able to initiate Ohiolink
book ILL's from a MiamiLINK terminal.
Books circulate to graduate students for one semester but can be recalled after
three weeks if another patron requires them.
Journals may be checked out for 24 hours to professors and graduate students for
the purpose of copying. See the circulation desk.
