Publications ABOUT an agency: do subject search with agency as the subject in the Miami
Libraries Catalog . (Examples of agency name search format: United States. Food and Drug Administration. OR
United States. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.
Publications FROM an agency. For general outline and SuDoc numbers see List
of Classes. (GOV DESK). Patron can browse shelf area, but remember many publications are on microfiche and
those should be browsed also to get everything. Can also search library catalog by author with agency name as author
- but results can be very numerous if not limited in some way (date, subject, keyword).

MATERIALS NOT ON THE SHELF: PLACES TO CHECK/OPTIONS IF CAN'T FIND
Double check library catalog - check that you have the right call number, right location, and that status is available
rather than checked out or at bindery or missing or whatever.
Double check shelves. Is patron looking in right place? Is publication out of order?
Check microfiche cabinets whether library catalog says location is microfiche or not. (Careful examination of the
cataloging record can also reveal whether the publication is in microfiche. Look for the word microfiche or MF
anywhere in the record)
Check pre-shelving/sorting area.
Still can't find: patron may be able to borrow a copy thru OhioLINK. If title not on OhioLINK patron can submit
a standard interlibrary loan request via MiamiLINK. Even if on OhioLINK may not be able to request as long as library
catalog shows Miami owns. Write down the call number and title and give to a librarian who can change Miami's copy
to say "missing" so OhioLINK borrowing will be possible. Patron may have to submit request next day if
librarian not immediately available.
Write down call number of any items not found whether patron wants to pursue further or not and give to librarian.
