WEB PAGE UPDATES

If you haven't surfed the site recently (www.lib.muohio.edu/nawpa/), please look around and see what's new, and let us know what you think. The biggest addition is the "Online Exhibit" of photos, posters, and other materials from the extensive collection of items we received from the Spiderwoman Theater troupe. The materials are divided into categories including "Performances," "Travels," "Family," "Origins," etc. We will continue to add to this exhibit as we get more materials catalogued and scanned.

We have also added a forms page to request further information or give feedback on the site. We have already gotten a good response to this addition, confirming our faith in the fact that the site is a point of first contact for many people who are doing research on the Web. We encourage those of you with online resources to visit the site and respond through the forms page with questions, suggestions, etc. It is also still possible to contact us via email at nawpa@lib.muohio.edu.

Additionally, we are in the process of adding synopses that are linked from the author's page. This is a fairly time-consuming task, so even though the going is slow, it is getting done. Authors who have manuscripts in the Archive are encouraged to provide their own synopses for the works we hold. We are also asking authors to send us any performance photos, programs, posters, etc., that you would like to have scanned and linked to your page.

Speaking of authors, we would also like to remind all of our authors that we are always ready to accept new material to add to the collection. Any scripts or other items can be mailed to:

It is also possible to email scripts as an attachment, or send them on disk, which we will then print out to catalogue, archive, and add to the web site.

CLEMENTS PERFORMANCE, ADVISORY BOARD MEETING IN NOVEMBER

Preparations are under way to bring Marie Clements to the Miami campus for a Sunday, November 7 performance of her one-woman show "Urban Tattoo", directed by Randy Reinholz. NAWPA holds a copy of the original manuscript for this work, written by Marie, and we are thrilled to have her come to Oxford to share this performance with the community. Anyone interested in attending this performance can contact the Archive for ticket information either by email or by phone at (513) 529-3936.

That same weekend will see the gathering of our Advisory Board to discuss the direction of the Archive, future programming, and other issues. If you have any suggestions, concerns, or items that you think should be included in the discussion, please contact Bill or Becky.

NATIVETHEATER LISTSERV

Those of you with email capability may be interested in subscribing to the NativeTheater listserv. This list is being administered by Ann Haugo, and contains production notices and information as well as providing a forum for posting questions and pursuing resources related to Native theater topics. If you would like to subscribe, send an email to: petidomo@staff.lib.muohio.edu, with the message subscribe nativetheater in the BODY of the message (not the subject line). If you wish to send mail to the list after subscribing, address it to nativetheater@staff.lib.muohio.edu.

CONFERENCE THANKS

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who attended the NAWPA conference last March. We were particularly pleased to have so many of the playwrights in attendance. It was an important, productive weekend, with many significant issues raised and discussed. Many of these issues will be addressed further when the advisory board meets in November.

As NAWPA continues to grow and evolve, the input of the playwrights and others representing a range of Native communities and interests is crucial to insuring that the programming and status of the collection itself remains vital, relevant, and respectful of the women who are represented as well as those who have an ongoing interest in the work of the Archive and the authors. Please feel free to give us your suggestions or voice your concerns.

ANTHOLOGY UPDATE

As some of you are aware, we have been working on compiling an anthology of some of the works from the Archive. The collection is being edited by Dr. Shirley Huston-Findley (formerly on the Theatre faculty at Miami, now at the College of Wooster), and Rebecca Howard, graduate assistant in the Archive. Work is proceeding, and we will soon have the materials prepared to send out to prospective publishers. If anyone has any suggestions, or would like more information about the project, please contact Becky Howard at NAWPA.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS/ INFO

Just another reminder for authors: if you are already part of the Archive and have any new scripts, please feel free to send them to us at any time, along with synopses and related material. If you are (or know) a Native woman playwright who is not yet represented in the Archive, please contact Bill Wortman or Becky Howard at the address/email/phone listed above for submission information.

We are also interested in posting production updates in future newsletter issues for recent or upcoming productions of works by NAWPA authors. If you have any such information, including photos or promotional materials, please send it along. Additionally, if you know of any other events or productions that would be of interest to NAWPA news recipients, let us know.

At this point, we are unsure as to the frequency of this newsletter. If you have any suggestions regarding the content/layout/etc., please contact Becky Howard at nawpa@lib.muohio.edu or howardra@muohio.edu, or by mail or phone as listed on the front.
